Chapter 10 - THE UNANSWERED PROMISE

Dante leaned closer, his broad shoulders trembling slightly as he read the written words carved into the oil paint.

"For Dante—When the girl in the lavender dress returns, the truth about the Falcone name will finally be free. Look behind the mirror."

A cold shockwave washed over Dante’s chest. Elena had not fled the estate because of a syndicate war or a family betrayal. She had painted this canvas before her sudden disappearance, leaving behind a coded message that required a specific sign—a child in lavender—to unlock the truth about who had truly torn their family apart from the inside.

Dante turned his head slowly, looking at four-year-old Sophia, who was currently pulling her purple crayon back out of her pocket, completely unaware that her random choice of clothing today had just shattered a three-year-old mafia mystery.

Rosa stepped into the room, her face pale as she realized the profound significance of what was unfolding. "Mr. Falcone... what is that?"

Dante did not answer immediately. He slowly stood up from the dusty floor, his tall frame blocking the crimson sunlight streaming through the doorway. His sharp gray eyes moved from the unfinished painting to the heavy, gold-framed mirror hanging on the adjacent wall.

He walked over to the mirror, his broad hands gripping the heavy carved frame. With a firm, powerful pull, he swung the mirror away from the wall, revealing a small, hidden wall safe embedded deep within the brickwork.

Next to the electronic keypad of the safe was a small, circular keyhole—and sitting right on the narrow ledge beneath it was a small, dusty plastic toy ring with a bright pink bow, identical to the ones securing Sophia’s ponytails.

Dante froze. His heart hammered against his ribs as he realized that the mystery of his sister's disappearance was far deeper, far more dangerous, and far closer to home than he had ever imagined.

Sophia walked up beside him, tapping her tiny pale shoe against the floor, completely oblivious to the high-stakes underworld secrets unravelling around her.

"Are we going to draw now?" Sophia asked innocently, holding up her purple crayon with a bright smile.

Dante looked down at the innocent girl who had walked into his dark world and shattered three years of cold, unbreakable silence. He reached down, and for the first time in his life, the feared mafia chief gently lifted the four-year-old child up into his broad arms, holding her securely against his chest.

He looked back toward the open doorway, where the house staff stood in stunned silence, and then out toward the grand corridor. The estate was no longer just a place of cold authority—it was a battleground of truth.

And as Dante held Sophia close, looking at the hidden safe before him, one terrifying question burned in his mind:

Who had planted the child's token in his private vault three years before Sophia was even born?
