Chapter 16 - The Interrogation

The mansion was on complete lockdown. Capos from across the city were arriving, their faces grim, knowing that the ceasefire was over.

Dante came into the library, his expression hard. "The captured shooter is in the basement. He’s Rossetti soldier, North End crew."

Adrian handed Sophia to Elena. "Mrs. Bellini is waiting in your quarters. Do not leave them."

"Adrian," Elena said, her voice shaking but her organizational mind already processing the next step. "The other two shooters. They weren't standard crew. They looked professional. Vetted. I saw a tattoo on one of their wrists when I was being pushed. It was a spade with three dots."

Dante froze, looking at Adrian. "The Spade Crew. Freelancers out of Providence. Expensive. Rossetti couldn't afford them."

Adrian’s eyes narrowed, the intelligence in them sharpening with lethal precision. "Then someone is funding them. Dominic Rossetti is too stupid to manage an operation like this. Luciano! I want the bank records of every construction partner connected to the Rossetti Seaport harassment. Follow the money."

He looked at Elena, his expression serious and profound. "Organized. Always organized. Go. Now."

Adrian went down to the basement with Dante. The interrogation was not long. Adrian Moretti did not need to use torture; his presence, combined with the presence of a 170-pound Neapolitan Mastiff staring with ancient, hungry eyes, was usually sufficient to break any man’s will.

The soldier confirmed that Dominic Rossetti had ordered the abduction. The Spade Crew had been brought in to ensure efficiency. But he didn't know who was funding it. He just knew the payout was enormous.

"Dominic is in the safehouse in Revere," the soldier gasped, blood and saliva dripping from his mouth. "He’s waiting for the girl. He thinks he can force a meeting with you on his terms."

Adrian stood up, his black suit and navy tie spotless, despite the violence in the room.

"Dante," Adrian said calmly. "Take this man upstairs. Give him to Luciano. He’s to be turned over to the Feds in a safe drop. He’s no longer useful to us, but he has information that will bury Dominic Rossetti’s legitimate construction partners."

"And Dominic?" Dante asked, his hand resting on his weapon.

"He wants a meeting," Adrian said, his eyes darker than the Persian rug on the floor. "I’m going to give him one. He didn't just attack a business rival today. He attacked my family. And in my world, there is only one punishment for that."
