Chapter 7 - THE REVEALED BOUNDARY

The silence in the marble hallway was thick enough to feel. Elena stood trapped between the cold, polished wall behind her and the warm, towering presence of Luca Rossi in front of her. His palm remained planted firmly against the marble beside her ear, his tattooed arm creating an inescapable physical barrier.

Elena forced herself to meet his gaze, her chest rising and falling in sync with his deep, heavy breathing.

"I... I was just grateful," Elena whispered, her voice trembling slightly despite her best efforts to remain steady. "I didn't mean any disrespect, Mr. Rossi."

Luca’s dark eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze dropping to her lips for a fraction of a second before returning to her eyes. The hard, dangerous line of his jaw twitched, revealing the immense internal struggle happening beneath his calm exterior.

"Disrespect?" Luca repeated, his voice dropping into a low, gravelly register that sent a shiver down her spine. "You think I'm talking about disrespect, Elena?"

He shifted his weight slightly, leaning a fraction of an inch closer. The heat radiating from his bare chest was overwhelming, wrapping around her like a physical force.

"In my world," Luca continued softly, his words measured and precise, "nobody touches me unless they want something, or unless they're trying to kill me. Nobody touches me just to say thank you."

Elena swallowed hard, her mind racing as she processed his words. She saw no malice in his eyes—only a deep, raw confusion, a vulnerability that a man of his standing had likely spent a lifetime hiding from the world.

"Then maybe your world is missing something," Elena said quietly, her natural bravery returning to her voice.

Luca stared at her, caught completely off balance by her answer. For a second, his grip against the marble wall loosened, his eyes searching her face as if trying to decipher a code he had never encountered before.
