Chapter 5 - THE CORRIDOR CONFRONTATION

The moment her lips touched his skin, Luca froze as if struck by lightning. Every muscle in his massive frame went rigid, his breath locking in his chest.

The sudden, absolute stillness of his body shattered Elena’s emotional fog. A wave of instant panic washed over her as she realized what she had just done—she had physically initiated uninvited contact with the most dangerous mafia figure in the state.

"I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have—" Elena stammered, her face turning pale as she backed away rapidly, dropping her hands to her sides.

Overwhelmed by embarrassment and sudden fear, she turned on her heel and hurried out of the bedroom, retreating into the adjoining marble hallway. The hallway was grand and dimly lit by warm wall sconces, its polished white marble walls reflecting the soft amber glow.

BANG.

Before Elena could take three steps down the corridor, Luca burst out of the bedroom suite behind her. Moving with terrifying, explosive speed despite his injuries, he caught up to her in an instant.

He slammed his large, calloused palm hard against the smooth marble wall mere inches beside her head.

The loud impact echoed sharply down the long hallway. The physical barrier of his thick arm and broad, shirtless torso cut off her escape entirely, trapping her against the cold marble surface.

Elena flinched, her back pressing flat against the wall. She looked up, her breathing rapid and shallow, her heart hammering against her ribs as she looked into his face.
