Chapter 13 - THE LAST PAYMENT

A year after Sabrina cut the automatic transfers, she received a bank notification.
Ryan sent her $1,000.
Memo:
First repayment.
She called him.
“What is this?”
“The money you sent me.”
“I didn’t ask for it back.”
“I know.”
“Then why?”
“Because some of it was based on a lie.”
Sabrina sat quietly.
“You cannot repay forty-five thousand dollars easily.”
“I know.”
“You have kids.”
“I know.”
“Then keep enough for them.”
“I am.”
He sent smaller amounts afterward.
Not every month.
Some months nothing.
Sabrina never chased him.
The purpose was not reimbursement.
It was recognition.
Ryan was finally naming the money correctly.
Not help for Mom.
May you like
Money he had taken under false pretenses.
That mattered.
