Chapter 9 - THE VOW ON THE STEEL

Luca stood up slowly from his knees, watching until the heavy oak door closed softly behind them, sealing the study in quiet sanctuary once more.
He turned around to face Julian, who was standing beside the walnut desk, his eyes locked onto the small silver key.
The cold, cynical hesitation that had haunted Luca for twelve years was completely gone. In its place stood a leader who had found his true, unshakeable purpose—not a monster who fought for territory, power, or blind revenge, but a guardian who would tear down any threat in the world to protect the innocent lives resting under his roof.
Luca reached down, picking up the small silver key from the dark walnut desk. He turned it over in his fingers, feeling its cold, solid steel against his calloused skin.
He looked at Julian, his razor-sharp gray eyes burning with a calm, lethal resolve that made the seasoned associate bow his head in profound, absolute respect.
"Assemble the inner council, Julian," Luca commanded, his baritone dropping into a low, smooth, and unstoppable register. "Call our contacts in Milan and Florence. Tell them the Hawk has returned to Chicago."
Julian offered a sharp, crisp nod of his head. "And the Commission in Rome, Don Luca?"

Luca slid the silver key safely into the inner pocket of his black suit jacket, right over his heart.
"Tell them," Luca said softly, his voice carrying the cold, absolute weight of an apex predator preparing for a war, "that I am coming to collect my father's debt... and protect my home."
