Chapter 8 - The Unspoken Vow

Four weeks passed in a peaceful blur of autumn sunshine, luxurious recovery, and deepening affection.

Under the constant care of Dr. Vance and the serene environment of the Bellevue estate, my health stabilized completely. My cheeks regained their healthy pink color, my energy returned, and the triplets grew steadily, their kicks becoming a daily, joyful rhythm that filled the grand ground-floor suite with constant life.

During those four weeks, the outside world underwent a massive seismic shift.

Nathan Drake’s real estate empire had completely collapsed under the weight of Lucian’s legal assault and federal tax indictments. His developments were seized, his personal bank accounts frozen, and Chloe Matthews had publicly denounced him in an exclusive interview before fleeing to Los Angeles.

On a warm Tuesday afternoon in late October, I sat in an ergonomic reclining armchair in the private rose garden, wrapped in a plush cream cardigan.

Beside me sat Lucian, wearing a relaxed white linen shirt, his laptop resting on a small marble table beside a pot of fresh chamomile tea.

"The federal court signed the final receivership order this morning," Lucian mentioned casually, taking a sip of his tea. "Nathan’s executive tower on Fifth Avenue has been purchased by Blackwood Real Estate."

I looked over at him, a soft, amused smile touching my lips. "You bought his building?"

"I bought his building," Lucian confirmed, a dark spark of humor dancing in his eyes. "And I am donating the top three floors to a non-profit shelter foundation for homeless pregnant women."

I let out a soft, genuine laugh that echoed through the quiet garden.

"You are relentless, Lucian Blackwood," I said, leaning my head back against the plush armchair.

Lucian set his teacup down, his expression turning serious as he turned his dark eyes toward me.

"I am only relentless when it comes to protecting what matters, Ava," he said softly.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, elegant leather folder, handing it to me.

I opened the folder. Inside were three original trust certificates registered under the state treasury, each containing a initial capital deposit of ten million dollars.

At the top of each certificate, printed in crisp gold lettering, were the names of the beneficiaries:

The Ava & Lucian Blackwood Family Trust for Child A, Child B, and Child C.

My heart skipped a beat. I looked up from the documents, my eyes wide with shock.

"Lucian... these trusts... they have your name on them," I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper.

Lucian slid off his chair, kneeling on one knee beside my armchair on the stone terrace, bringing his eyes level with mine.

"Ava," Lucian spoke, his deep voice carrying a quiet, profound intensity that made my breath catch in my throat. "When I stepped onto that city bus four weeks ago, I believed I was fulfilling an old debt to your father. But from the moment I held you in my arms, I realized something else."

He reached out, taking both of my hands in his, his thumb gently stroking my knuckles.

"I didn't save you because of your father, Ava," Lucian confessed, his eyes locked onto mine with absolute honesty. "I saved you because the moment I saw your eyes, I knew I could never let another man hurt you again. I want to give these three children my name. I want to give them my protection, my legacy, and my home."

Tears filled my eyes—not tears of fear or pain, but tears of pure, overwhelming joy.

"Lucian..." I whispered, my heart hammering against my chest.

"You don't have to give me an answer today," Lucian said quickly, a rare trace of vulnerability surfacing in his voice. "You have been through hell, Ava. You need time to heal, to breathe, and to prepare for these babies. But I need you to know where my heart stands."

May you like

I leaned forward, placing my palm gently against his sharp, handsome cheekbone.

"My heart stands right here with you, Lucian," I whispered, smiling through my tears. "It has since the moment you kicked open that bus door."
