Chapter 9 - THE CONVERGENCE ON THE MARBLE FLOOR

The sound of a heavy electronic lock disengaging echoed down from the third-floor balcony—a deep, metallic CLACK that sounded identical to the front door perimeter lockdown.
High above the grand foyer, the dark mahogany door of the archive wing slowly swung open.
A man stepped out onto the brass-railed balcony overlooking the foyer. He wore a crisp, dark suit, his face identical in jawline to Miles and Alexander, but scarred heavily along the left cheek. He held a small, sleek electronic detonator pad in his right hand, his thumb resting lightly over a glowing red toggle switch.
"Hello, brothers," Marcus Harrington called down, his voice echoing smoothly off the crystal chandeliers and polished marble walls.
Miles stepped forward instantly, putting his broad body in front of Sophie and Ruby, while Alexander simultaneously shifted his position to cover the lower left angle of the staircase.
"Marcus," Miles growled, his hand locking onto his sidearm. "Stand down."
"I spent eight years watching you two tear the Harrington name apart," Marcus sneered from the balcony, looking down at the gathered family with cold, unblinking eyes. "Alexander playing the dead ghost, Miles playing the savior billionaire, and little Sophie running across the country thinking she was escaping a domestic nightmare."
Marcus raised the detonator pad slightly, showing the amber frequency light blinking in sync with the mansion's main electrical grid.

"The entire sub-basement security vault is rigged with military-grade C4," Marcus announced calmly. "The same thermite compound that failed to kill Alexander in Capri. In thirty seconds, this entire estate becomes a crater."
Ruby let out a sharp cry, hiding her face entirely in Sophie's blouse. Sophie dropped to her knees on the marble floor, wrapping her arms completely around her daughter, her body trembling violently as she looked up at the man on the balcony.
