Chapter 11 - HANNAH’S RECEIPT
Hannah kept the original $25,000 cashier’s check receipt.
For nearly a year she hated herself every time she saw it.
Now it became evidence.
The memo line read:
Relocation / family confidentiality support
Vanessa claimed it was a voluntary assistance payment.
Hannah produced the agreement.
Its confidentiality clause was broad but not necessarily enforceable regarding paternity.
More importantly, it contained one strange line:
Recipient acknowledges Daniel Bennett is aware of and supports the arrangement.
Daniel had never seen it.
His name made Hannah believe he had.
Vanessa had not forged Daniel’s signature on that particular document.
She didn’t need to.
She forged his consent through representation.
Hannah eventually testified in the civil case.
So did Daniel.
The outcomes were not movie-clean.
Vanessa faced civil fraud claims, misuse of trust funds, identity/signature fraud issues, and the consequences of the Noah incident.
The alley video severely damaged any attempt to paint Daniel as hysterical.
Her marriage ended.
She negotiated repayment of misused family funds.
The forged custody declaration was referred to authorities and to the attorney whose template had been improperly used, though because it had never actually been filed, the legal consequences differed from what they would have been had she submitted it under oath.
That mattered.
Accuracy mattered.
