Chapter 8 - The Paper Empire Collapses

While Richard sat in a county jail cell awaiting trial, his commercial empire was systematically dismantled.

Without access to cash reserves—which remained frozen by court orders—Harrington Commercial Group defaulted on three major construction loans totaling eighty-five million dollars.

Harrison Cole didn't just let the company fail; he strategically orchestrated its acquisition.

Utilizing a consortium of ethical investors and Khloe’s lawful marital share of the holdings, Harrison forced an emergency receivership. Within three weeks, the court appointed an independent trustee to oversee the liquidation of Richard’s assets.

One rainy morning, Harrison met with Richard’s civil attorney in a private conference room at Cole & Partners.

"This is a total corporate takeover, Harrison!" the attorney argued, slamming his fist on the mahogany table. "You're stripping Richard of every piece of real estate he spent fifteen years building!"

"Richard built those properties using funds stolen from marital accounts," Harrison replied calmly, sliding a hundred-page audit report across the table. "He committed tax fraud, wire fraud, and grand larceny. If we go to civil trial, a jury will award Khloe punitive damages that exceed his total net worth."

The attorney looked over the mountain of irrefutable evidence, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "What do you want?"

"Full surrender of all real estate holdings," Harrison said cleanly. "The transfer of the Harrington Commercial headquarters to a private trust in Maya's name. Complete relinquishment of all parental rights by Richard Harrington. And a full, written admission of financial fraud."

"He'll never sign away his parental rights," the attorney whispered.

"Then he will spend twenty-five years in federal prison for financial crimes before he even serves a single day for the assault on the courthouse steps," Harrison said, standing up and buttoning his suit jacket. "He has twenty-four hours to sign."
