Chapter 14 - The New Beginning

By the autumn of 2029, life in the country house had settled into a joyful, peaceful rhythm.
Khloe had returned to her first love—architectural design—opening a boutique firm that specialized in sustainable, family-centered housing projects.

One golden October afternoon, Harrison drove out to the farmhouse for Sunday dinner.
Three-year-old Maya ran across the wide lawn, her dark curls flying in the autumn wind, holding a bright yellow kite.
"Uncle Harry! Uncle Harry! Look how high it goes!" Maya squealed, running toward him.
Harrison caught her in his arms, lifting her high onto his shoulders as she laughed with pure, unrestricted delight.
"You're getting too fast for me, little one," Harrison laughed, adjusting her jacket as they walked toward the porch where Khloe was setting down a tray of warm apple cider.
"She gets that speed from her mother," Khloe smiled, hugging her brother as he set Maya down on the porch swing.

The three of them sat together on the wide porch, watching the golden leaves fall from the ancient oak trees across the lawn. The air was cool and crisp, carrying the scent of woodsmoke and apple cinnamon.
There were no shadows of the past lingering in the garden. The fear, the pain, and the blood on the marble steps were gone, replaced by the quiet, unbreakable strength of a family that had survived the storm.
