Chapter 1 - The Sanctuary Above the City

The morning sun broke through the pale horizon, casting long, brilliant rays of light across the glass and steel spire of the Morgan Tower. Sixty stories above the bustling streets, the private penthouse garden was a marvel of modern architecture and unbelievable wealth. Designed as a serene urban oasis, the garden featured rare imported flower beds, lush manicured hedges, and delicate exotic flora gathered from across four continents. The rich black soil beneath the delicate petals was a custom-blended, nutrient-dense mixture brought in at exorbitant cost to keep the delicate plants thriving in the high-altitude climate. Clear mobile readability and bright natural live-action realism highlighted every detail: the crisp morning dew glistening on the leaves, the pristine glass perimeter walls reflecting the blue sky, and the deep contrast of the imported dark earth against the marble pathways.
Inside the adjoining executive office, Alexander Morgan stood by his massive floor-to-ceiling glass doors. At forty-five, Alexander was a titan of industry—a powerful billionaire whose word could shift global markets. He was tall, impeccably groomed with neatly styled dark brown hair, and wore a crisp white dress shirt with tailored dark trousers. His countenance was famous across corporate boardrooms for being utterly cold, detached, and unreadable. He approached life and business as a series of calculated algorithms, leaving no room for sentimental vulnerabilities or unpredictable variables.
Yet, as Alexander held a warm porcelain cup of dark espresso in his right hand, his eyes caught a jarring anomaly out on the private terrace. Kneeling beside one of his prized, imported flower beds was a tiny, frail child. Ten-year-old Tommy Martinez looked completely out of place in the ultra-luxury sanctuary. He was a thin little boy with messy, unkempt brown hair, wearing old, dirt-smudged, and slightly torn clothes that were far too small for his frame. His small hands were red from the biting morning cold, completely covered in thick black soil as he desperately scooped handfuls of the rich earth into an old, cracked plastic bucket resting beside his bare knees.
Beside the child, a heavily built security guard dressed in a sharp black suit with an earpiece in his ear spotted the intruder and began moving rapidly toward the boy to remove him from the private property. Seeing the guard approach the shivering child, Alexander’s sharp eyes narrowed. A strange, inexplicable impulse surged through him, halting his usual ruthless efficiency.
Alexander raised his hand in a sharp, authoritative gesture against the glass door.

“Wait,” Alexander commanded quietly into his lapel microphone.
Without waiting for a response, Alexander set his espresso cup down on a side table, slid open the heavy glass door, and stepped directly out into the crisp morning air of the garden.
