Chapter 9 - NOAH LEARNS THE TRUTH

Megan insisted that Noah be told what Andrew had done.
Not every adult detail.
But enough.
Claire was there.
So was a child counselor.
Andrew sat across from his son.
For once, he had nowhere to hide.
“Your mother believed Megan knew about you,” Andrew said.
Noah stared at him.
“She did.”
Andrew swallowed.
“No. She didn’t.”
Noah’s face changed.
“You told Mom she did.”
“I know.”
“You told me she didn’t want me.”
Andrew looked down.
“I was wrong.”
Noah stood so abruptly his chair scraped backward.
“You said she was the reason!”
Megan remained silent.
This was Andrew’s damage to own.
Noah began crying then.
Not loudly.
Not theatrically.
Just quietly enough that everyone in the room had to hear it.
“My mom died hating her.”
Megan looked away.
That was perhaps the cruelest truth of all.
Rachel had died believing in a lie.
Noah had attacked Ella because of a lie.
Megan’s marriage had survived eight years because of a lie.

Andrew had not simply hidden the truth.
He had weaponized different versions of it against everyone around him.
