Chapter 3 - THE WALL OF STEEL

Mason didn't shout. He didn't slam his fist against the floor. He simply turned his head slightly, making direct eye contact with the five tattooed bikers sitting around the oak table.
He gave only one small, subtle nod of his head.
Instantly, the quiet morning atmosphere of the bakery shifted into one of high-tactical readiness.
Scrape.
The wooden legs of five heavy chairs scraped back against the polished floor in perfect, unspoken synchronization. Mason’s five brothers—large, broad-shouldered men covered in tattoos, wearing dark leather vests and heavy boots—stood up smoothly. Without uttering a single word, without drawing weapons or making a scene that would alarm the bakery staff, the five hardened bikers moved with quiet, disciplined precision, forming a broad, impenetrable wall of muscular steel around Mason and the little girl, shielding Emma entirely from the street-facing windows.
Mason unzipped his black leather motorcycle vest, slipping his arms out of the heavy armholes. Beneath it, his bare torso displayed a web of scars and dark ink across his chest and shoulders, but his focus was entirely on the child before him.
He gently wrapped the heavy, warm leather vest around Emma’s small shoulders. The garment was vast on her small frame, draping over her pale floral dress like an armored blanket, carrying the warm scent of leather, pine, and motor oil.
Mason kept one broad, steady hand resting gently on her back, anchoring her to his side as he remained on one knee beside her.

"You stay right beside me, Emma," Mason commanded softly, his tone absolute and unwavering. "No one touches you. Ever."
Emma wrapped the oversized lapels of the leather vest around her small chest. Surrounded by six massive men who looked like warriors, feeling the solid, immovable weight of Mason’s hand on her back, her rapid, shallow breathing finally began to slow down. The violent trembling in her shoulders gradually eased as a profound sense of absolute security washed over her.
