Chapter 8 - The Weight of True Authority

Daniel calmly leaned back against the plush leather cushion of Booth 17. He reached out and adjusted the small paper menu so Sophie could finish coloring her cartoon sun.

He didn't look angry. He didn't look vengeful. That was what terrified Vanessa the most—his complete, absolute composure.

"Vanessa," Daniel spoke, his voice low, measured, and commanding the complete attention of every person standing near the booth. "A true hospitality brand is built on warmth, respect, and dignity for every human being who walks through those doors. You didn't see a customer tonight. You saw an outfit. You judged my daughter's peace of mind based on the dust on my boots."

Vanessa’s eyes flooded with hot, humiliated tears. The arrogance that had defined her entire persona vanished, leaving behind a terrified, defeated woman standing in the middle of her own dining room.

"Mr. Mercer... please," Vanessa stammered, her voice shaking violently as she clasped her hands together in desperate plea. "I... I didn't know who you were! If I had known—"

"That's the problem, Vanessa," Daniel interrupted gently, looking up into her pale face. "If you only treat people with respect when you know they have power, then you don't possess integrity. You possess greed."

The Corporate Representative opened the black file, pulling out a formal termination notice along with a red corporate seal stamp. She laid a sleek silver pen on the table beside Daniel's plate.

"Your termination is effective immediately, Miss Cole," the Representative announced coldly. "You will clear your personal belongings from the manager's office within fifteen minutes under security supervision."

The two security guards—who had previously been ready to throw Daniel out—immediately stepped beside Vanessa, their posture firm as they gestured toward the back hallway.

"This way, Miss Cole," one of the guards said sternly.
