Chapter 8 - SHADOWS OF THE OPERATION

Monroe ignored the exchange behind her. Her focus remained entirely locked onto the glowing tactical map on the primary wall.
She reached out with her left hand—the black split-triangle brand fully exposed on her wrist—and tapped the digital surface of the map. Her fingers executed three rapid swipes, overriding the primary operational plan that Martinez had spent six hours preparing.
The map zoomed in on a dense, mountain valley region marked with red heat signatures and reinforced concrete structures.
"The secondary extraction route you planned through Sector Four is compromised," Monroe said, her voice cool and precise. "They have anti-armor emplacements hidden in the tree line at coordinates 09-4. If your team drops in there, you'll be wiped out in ninety seconds."
Martinez stepped up to the board, examining the satellite telemetry she had just brought up. A chill ran down his spine. The hidden radar signatures she pointed out were completely invisible on the standard briefing scans, buried under thermal masking—yet she knew exactly where they were without looking at a single intelligence report.
"How do you know those emplacements are there?" Martinez asked, his voice filled with profound awe.

Monroe didn't answer the question. She tapped another node on the screen, opening a narrow, unmarked canyon path along the eastern ridge.
"Insert here," Monroe instructed flatly. "We breach the north perimeter at 0300. I take the high ground. You cover the breach."
