Chapter 5 - The Folder Adrian Opened

After Daniel was moved out of the room, the real work began.
Statements.
Photographs.
Medical documentation.
Police questions.
Every gentle, necessary step that made the truth official.
Adrian waited until the nurse adjusted my IV and left me with water before he spoke.
“You sent the folder.”
I looked at him.

My lips barely moved.
“When?”
“Tonight,” he said. “Automatic release. It triggered when you missed the check-in.”
I had forgotten.
The encrypted system I built six months earlier sent a packet if I failed to confirm I was safe within a set window.
It went to Adrian.
To my attorney.
And to the independent audit firm handling Vale Development’s review.
Daniel had attacked me to stop the audit.
Instead, he activated everything.
Adrian opened his tablet just enough for me to see blurred folders.
Bank transfers.
Threat recordings.
Photos.
Medical notes.
Corporate control documents.
Operating agreements showing my majority voting power through the trust.
“He doesn’t know about the ownership clause,” Adrian said.
I breathed through the pain.
“He signed it.”
“Did he read it?”
A weak laugh almost tore through me.
“No.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“The board has it now.”
Outside the glass, Daniel stood between two officers, still trying to speak like a man who expected everyone to adjust reality around him.
Then his phone rang.
He looked down.

His face changed.
That was when I knew the audit had reached Vale Development.
