Chapter 4 - The Story He Couldn’t Control

The officers did not rush.

That made it worse for Daniel.

They were calm, professional, and already briefed.

One spoke with Nurse Rachel. The other stood near Daniel without touching him.

Daniel lifted both hands slightly, wearing outrage like a tailored coat.

“This is a misunderstanding.”

Adrian remained beside my bed.

“No, it isn’t.”

Daniel looked at me.

“Elena. Tell them.”

That command almost worked.

My body remembered years of obeying before my mind could refuse.

Do not embarrass me.

Do not make a scene.

Do not tell people what happens in our house.

I closed my eyes.

Then I opened them and looked at the officer.

“He didn’t find me after I fell,” I whispered. “He was there.”

Daniel went still.

The nurse’s face softened, but she did not interrupt.

The officer stepped closer.

“Can you say who hurt you?”

My voice shook.

But it came out.

“My husband.”

Daniel inhaled sharply.

“Elena, think very carefully.”

Adrian’s voice cut through the room.

“You don’t get to lie for her anymore.”

The sentence landed like a door locking.

Daniel looked at my brother and finally understood something important.

This hospital was not his house.

May you like

This room was not his boardroom.

And I was not alone.
