Chapter 9 - THE HONORARY CAPTAIN

The Elderly Biker dropped down to one knee on the pavement beside Ben’s cherry-red wheelchair, bringing himself eye-to-eye with the eleven-year-old boy.
"Son," the old man said, his voice steadying with immense pride. "You didn't just build a fine machine today. You brought a piece of history back to this town that I thought was lost forever."
He gently pushed the yellowed 1978 photograph toward Ben, pressing it safely into the boy's hands.
"I want you to keep this," the Elderly Biker said softly. "It belongs with someone who knows what it means to turn wheels into freedom."
Ben looked at the precious photo, his heart swelling with emotion. "Are you sure? This is your brother..."
"Jimmy would have wanted you to have it," the old man replied with a warm, comforting smile. "In fact, I think he’d say you built a much better cruiser than our cardboard special."
Duke reached into his vest pocket, unpinning the tarnished silver raven badge from his lapel. He leaned down and carefully pinned the silver emblem onto the collar of Ben’s blue T-shirt, right over his heart.

"Official business, Ben," Duke announced, his voice filled with unquestionable authority and deep affection. "By order of the club and the town's history... you are now an honorary Road Captain of Oakridge."
Ben touched the cool silver metal on his collar, his face beaming with the highest honor he could ever imagine.
