Chapter 6 - THE FORGOTTEN PIONEER

Ben looked down at the photograph resting in his palm.
It was a black-and-white print with slightly faded edges, clearly stamped at the bottom corner with a red ink date: JULY 4, 1978.
The image captured the exact same Main Street of Oakridge, taken nearly fifty years earlier during the annual town parade. Positioned right at the front of the procession—leading a long line of vintage motorcycles and decorated bicycles—was a young boy sitting in a vintage manual wheelchair. Attached around his wooden wheelchair were handmade cardboard side panels shaped like an old 1950s hot rod, complete with painted flame decals and aluminum trim.
Ben’s eyes widened in absolute astonishment. He traced his thumb over the old photograph, recognizing the identical spirit of innovation and parade pride that he had just experienced himself.
Ben immediately looked up into the tear-filled eyes of the Elderly Biker standing over him.
"Who is he?" Ben asked softly, his voice full of curiosity and wonder. "Is this... you?"
The Elderly Biker stared down at the photograph, his throat working silently as his eyes grew red with rising emotion. He opened his mouth, his jaw trembling as if he were about to speak a name that had been buried in his heart for half a century.

Beside them, Duke noticed the intense emotional exchange and stepped forward, his boots thudding softly against the pavement. He looked at the old photograph in Ben’s hand, then raised his eyes toward the Elderly Biker, deeply surprised by the old man's visceral reaction.
The Elderly Biker reached down, his trembling fingers lightly gripping the top corner of the photograph alongside Ben’s hand.
