Chapter 10 - The Vow on the Vanguard Horizon

Ethan stood frozen in the quiet, carpeted hallway of the third floor.

Julian.

His half-brother, who held a thirty percent stake in the Vance Global conglomerate, and who had spent the last three years lobbying the board to remove Ethan as Chief Executive Officer on the grounds that Ethan’s dedication to raising his young son was making him "unfit for high-stakes leadership."

Julian hadn't just tried to kill Ethan tonight to take control of the forty-billion-dollar empire—he had been willing to let five-year-old Noah die in the process to make it look like a tragic, domestic structural accident.

A cold, terrifying calm settled over Ethan Vance. The hesitation, the guilt, and the fatigue of the evening completely vanished, replaced by an absolute, lethal clarity.

He turned his head, looking through the glass window of the medical suite.

Inside, Elena was gently tucking Noah into a soft velvet armchair, laughing softly as the tiny boy demonstrated how his toy car could zoom up the side of the leather cushions. The warm lighting cast a soft, angelic glow over her delicate features, her dark hair slightly loose, her brown eyes filled with pure, unfiltered tenderness for his child.

Ethan realized that in a single evening, his entire world had been fundamentally rewritten.

He walked back into the medical suite, his steps slow, deliberate, and commanding.

He stopped in front of Elena, reaching down to take her small, cold hand into his broad, warm palm.

"Julian is going to pay for what he did tonight," Ethan said, his deep voice carrying a solemn, ironclad vow. "Every single person involved in this attempt will be hunted down, exposed, and ruined until they have nothing left."

Elena looked up into his piercing hazel eyes, seeing not just the ruthless billionaire who ruled a global empire, but a father who would tear the world apart to protect his child. She squeezed his fingers gently, her brown eyes reflecting an equal measure of courage and resolve.

"Then let’s make sure we hit them first, Mr. Vance," Elena said quietly, her voice smooth and fearless.

Ethan’s lips curved into a faint, dangerous smile—the first real smile he had worn in five years.

"Call me Ethan," he murmured softly.

Outside the grand high-arched windows of the Vanguard Estate, the storm clouds were gathering over the city skyline, heavy with incoming rain and thunder. But inside the private sanctuary of the third floor, framed by the warm glow of the estate, standing over the sleeping form of five-year-old Noah, Ethan Vance and Elena stood side by side—bound together by blood, crystal, and an unyielding vow that no power on earth would ever break.
