Chapter 5 - THE DISCOVERY AND THE OATH

Night fell once again over the estate, burying the bedroom in deep shadow. Nine-month-old Theo was resting peacefully in a portable crib positioned in the quiet corner of the master suite.
Nora sat at the small walnut desk near the window, the blue light of her smartphone illuminating her anxious face. Her hands shook violently as her fingers flew across the screen, typing in the chemical compound markers she had managed to read on the discarded glass packaging Dr. Wallace had thrown into the hazardous bin earlier that morning.
As the medical database search results loaded, Nora’s brown eyes widened in absolute horror.
The substance injected into Raymond’s IV was not a therapeutic drug or a nerve stimulant. It was a rare, synthetic neurotoxin—a specialized neuromuscular blocker that simulated advanced degenerative paralysis while slowly depressing the respiratory system. In small, repeated doses over several weeks, it induced gradual organ failure that mirrored a natural cardiac arrest, completely unresolvable in standard toxicology reports.
They weren't treating him. They were systematically, silently executing him inside his own home.
Realization slammed into Nora like a physical blow. Christopher wasn't waiting for Raymond to die—he and Dr. Wallace were actively killing him to seize total control of the Winslow enterprise before Raymond's legal empire could be restructured.
Nora stood up from the desk, her legs trembling under her navy scrubs. She rushed across the dark room, dropping to her knees beside Raymond’s bed.
She reached out, grabbing his cold, broad right hand with both of her hands, holding it tightly against her chest.
"Mr. Winslow..." Nora whispered urgently, tears of anger and fear welling in her eyes as she looked down at his pale, still face. "They're poisoning you. The IV... Dr. Wallace... they're slowly shutting your heart down."
Raymond’s face remained still, but beneath his closed eyelid, a single, tiny tremor occurred.
He gave the faintest, most agonizingly weak blink.
He already knew.
May you like
Nora squeezed his cold, tattooed fingers, her voice tightening into a fierce, absolute promise born of maternal instinct and pure human conviction.
"I won't let them do this to you," Nora declared in a raspy, intense whisper, looking straight into his half-opened eye. "I won't let them kill you in this bed."
