Chapter 10 - THE UNBROKEN LINE

The silence in the private lounge was absolute. Outside the high windows, a flash of lightning illuminated the rain-streaked glass, casting long, dramatic shadows across the marble floor.
Eleanor Walker did not break eye contact with her son. Her face remained a frozen mask of aristocratic stone, though her fingers tightened almost imperceptibly around the leather gloves in her grip.
"Clara is a sick, delirious woman, Adrian," Eleanor said quietly, her voice dropping into a low, warning tone. "She will say anything to secure her place in your bank account. If you pursue these absurd fantasies, you will destroy everything your father built."
"My father built an empire," Adrian replied, his voice flat and unyielding. "And if he was murdered to keep that empire intact, I will burn it to the ground myself to find out who did it."
Eleanor stared at him for three long, agonizing seconds. Seeing the absolute, unshakeable resolution in her son’s eyes, she realized that the leverage she had held over him for a decade had vanished the moment those two three-year-old girls walked into his boardroom.
Without another word, Eleanor turned on her high heels, her dark coat swirling around her ankles, and walked out of the private suite. Her sharp footsteps echoed down the long marble corridor until the double doors swung shut behind her.
Adrian stood in the center of the quiet room, his chest rising and falling in deep, controlled cycles.
Behind him, a small, soft touch pressed against his right knee.
He looked down. Abby was standing beside him, holding her yellow ribbon in one hand and reaching up toward him with the other. On his left, Lucy had stepped off the sofa, clutching her worn stuffed rabbit against her chest, looking up at him with clear, trusting brown eyes.
"Daddy?" Abby asked softly, her small voice cutting through the heavy silence of the room. "Is Mommy going to wake up now?"
Adrian dropped to both knees on the polished floor. He reached out his large, tattooed arms and pulled both of his daughters tightly against his chest, feeling their small hearts beating steadily against his ribs.
He closed his eyes, pressing his cheek against their soft hair.

"Yes, sweetheart," Adrian whispered into the quiet room, his voice filled with an absolute, unshakeable promise. "Mommy is going to wake up. And nobody is ever going to hurt us again."
Through the glass wall behind them, inside Room 1004, the heart monitor attached to Clara Monroe clicked into a steady, strong rhythm—as the new reign of the Walker family began not in a high-rise boardroom, but in the quiet safety of a protected room, held together by the undeniable bond of blood.
