Chapter 8 - The Rebuilding

Spring arrived three months later, melting the thick ice along the shores of the Wisconsin lake house.
The Vance Global Logistics headquarters was officially renamed Castillo-Vance Holdings, returning the corporate brand to Elena’s maiden family name.
Under Marcus’s operational leadership and Elena’s guidance as Chairwoman of the Board, the firm executed a full corporate restructuring, liquidating the offshore shell entities and establishing a high-tech logistics innovation lab headed by nineteen-year-old Leo.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, the lawns of the lake house were filled with the sound of laughter, clinking glasses, and fresh catering.
It was Toby’s tenth birthday.
There were no emerald silk gowns, no press cameras, and no corporate board members seeking influence. Only true friends, family members, and colleagues who had stood by Elena through her dark years of isolation.
Toby ran across the green grass, kicking a soccer ball with his uncle Marcus, his bright laughter echoing across the open water.
Leo stood near the porch railing, sipping a cold lemonade, watching his younger brother play.
Elena walked out from the house, carrying a tray of fresh lemon tarts, and stood beside her eldest son.
“You should be resting, Chairwoman,” Leo teased softly, offering his mother a warm smile.
“I’ve rested enough for three lifetimes, Leo,” Elena laughed gently, setting the tray on the porch table. She looked at her son, her eyes filled with immense pride. “How are the new security protocols for the holding company?”

“Fully operational,” Leo answered, pulling a small tablet from his pocket. “Zero backdoors, zero unauthorized access points. The entire system is transparent.”
“Just as it should be,” Elena murmured, wrapping her arm around Leo’s waist and pulling him tight against her side.
