Chapter 15 - The Full Circle

Five years after that fateful morning at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport.

It was a crisp, snowy November afternoon. I was forty-nine, Rosalind was forty-five, and the twins were now ten years old, while little Grace was two.

We were returning home from a family trip to visit our resort in Salt Lake City.

As we walked through Terminal 2 at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, heading toward the baggage claim area, a sudden announcement echoed over the loudspeakers:

Attention passengers, flight 412 has been delayed due to weather...

I stopped in my tracks right near the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the snowy runways—the exact spot where I had stood five years earlier with my laptop, complaining about a delayed flight.

Rosalind stopped beside me, holding little Grace in her arms. She looked at the terminal area, then up at me, a soft, knowing smile touching her lips.

"Thinking about five years ago?" Rosalind asked gently.

Leo and Julian, now ten-year-old boys with tall, athletic frames and bright brown eyes, stopped beside us, carrying their own backpacks.

"What happened five years ago, Dad?" Julian asked curiously.

I looked at my two handsome sons, then at my beautiful wife holding our daughter, and finally at the frozen marble floor beneath my feet.

"Five years ago," I said, my voice filled with steady, profound emotion, "I was standing right on this cold floor, complaining because a flight delay was going to ruin my career."

Leo frowned slightly. "Did it ruin your career?"

I smiled, pulling both of my sons into a tight, warm hug, wrapping my arm around Rosalind and holding my whole world close to my heart.

"No, Leo," I whispered, looking into my family's eyes. "It was the greatest delay of my life. It brought me home to you."
