Chapter 13 - The Family Vacation

In the summer of 2027, we took our first real family vacation to our resort in Key West, Florida.

For two glorious weeks, there were no board meetings, no corporate emails, and no press interviews. There were only warm ocean breezes, white sand beaches, turquoise water, and endless hours spent with my wife and sons.

We rented a private wooden sailboat, taking the boys out into the deep blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Leo and Julian stood at the bow of the boat, wearing yellow life jackets, cheering excitedly as wild dolphins leaped out of the water beside our hull.

"Look, Dad! Look!" Julian screamed with delight, pointing at a mother dolphin swimming beside her two calves. "They’re twins, just like us!"

I stood near the steering wheel with Rosalind, holding her around the waist as the warm sea spray dusted our faces.

"They’re growing up so fast," Rosalind murmured, watching our sons laugh and cheer.

"They are," I agreed, kissing her neck. "Healthy, happy, and loved."

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon in a breathtaking explosion of orange, pink, and purple light, we sat on the wooden dock outside our private beach bungalow.

The boys were busy building a massive sandcastle decorated with sea shells and palm leaves, while Barnaby lay happily in the warm sand beside them.

Rosalind leaned her head against my shoulder, her hand resting warmly over mine.

"Thank you for this life, Christopher," she whispered softly.

"Thank you for giving me a family to share it with, my love," I replied, pulling her closer as the stars began to twinkle in the darkening tropical sky.
