Chapter 7 - The Freeze of Absolute Shock

The gentle warmth in the grand hall evaporated in a single microsecond.
The last trace of Adrian’s soft smile vanished from his face as if erased by a cold blade. His broad shoulders locked into place. The posture he held—kneeling on one knee on the marble floor—became rigid, frozen in time like a marble statue carved from pure shock.
His eyes widened significantly, the dark pupils dilating as he processed the visual information inside the pink purse.
Slowly, hesitatingly, Adrian raised his right hand. The powerful, steady hand that had signed multi-million-dollar land deals and ordered ruthless corporate takedowns began to tremble visibly in the morning light. His fingers hovered two inches above the opening of the purse, paralyzed by a sudden, overwhelming wave of psychological shock. He could not bring himself to touch the object resting inside.
The grand hall fell into a suffocating, breathless silence. The security guards, sensing the sudden shift in their boss’s energy, instantly reached their hands toward their jackets, their posture turning lethal. Mrs. Holloway stepped back against the pillar, terrified by the sudden drop in temperature.

Adrian slowly, painfully turned his head away from the purse. He lifted his gaze across the vast expanse of the white marble floor, fixing his dark, piercing eyes directly onto Nora’s mother.
She stood frozen in the arched doorway of the breakfast room, her hands still clutching the polishing cloth against her chest, her pale face illuminated by the bright morning sun. Tears had well in her eyes, glittering like crushed diamonds as she met the gaze of the most dangerous man in the city.
