Chapter 10 - The Rebirth of the House of Cole

The words hit Adrian like a physical blow. The mysterious accident that had killed his younger brother four years ago was not a random tragedy; it was an internal assassination executed by their late uncle’s ambitious faction—a faction Adrian had spent four years unknowingly protecting while managing the family business.
Adrian turned his head slowly to look back at Nora. The three-year-old girl had set her pink purse down on the marble floor and was currently trying to untie the oversized black silk tie hanging around her neck, huffing in slight frustration.
The realization that his brother’s life had not been entirely wiped away—that a piece of James was standing right here in front of him, wearing his tie, walking with his stride, carrying his laugh—shattered the icy armor Adrian had worn around his heart for four years.
He looked back at the mother, his eyes burning with an intense, iron-willed promise.
"You hid her from them," Adrian said, his voice dropping into a low, lethal register that reverberated through the empty grand hall. "You brought her into my house... right under my protection."
"I had to keep her safe," the mother wept softly. "I didn't know if I could trust you, Adrian. I didn't know if you had become like your uncle."
Adrian took the remaining three steps, closing the distance between them. He reached out with his broad, powerful hand and gently touched her shoulder, a gesture of absolute respect and dynamic alliance.
"You can trust me," Adrian vowed, his voice unshakeable, dark with an upcoming retribution that would shake the city to its foundations. "My uncle’s men will pay for what they did to James. Every single one of them. But today... today my brother’s daughter takes her proper place."
He turned away from her and walked back to Nora. The powerful crime boss dropped back down onto both knees in front of the three-year-old girl. He didn't care about his dark trousers or his pristine reputation.
Adrian reached out with gentle fingers and carefully helped Nora untie the black silk tie around her neck, adjusting it properly before lifting her small pink plastic purse off the floor.
He looked into his niece's hazel eyes—James's eyes—and let out a soft, genuine smile that reached all the way to his heart.
"Come on, little boss," Adrian whispered warmly, lifting her effortlessly into his broad chest, holding her tight against his heart. "Let's go take care of business."
Nora wrapped her small arms around his neck, raising her toy phone to her ear one more time.

"Handle it," Nora muttered softly into the plastic receiver.
Adrian Cole laughed once more—a clear, victorious sound that declared to the silent walls of the estate that the House of Cole was no longer broken.
