Chapter 4 - The Strike and the Counter

As Adrian closed the remaining distance, he didn't stop to reason or negotiate. Driven by the need to prove his authority in front of his father, Adrian suddenly raised his right hand, pulling his arm back and swinging hard toward Claire’s face. The open-handed strike was wild, fast, and delivered with maximum force—a violent attempt to shock her into compliance.
To an untrained observer, the attack would have landed cleanly, causing devastating impact. But Claire’s ten years of intensive Taekwondo training had mapped reflex patterns deep into her nervous system. She didn't panic. She didn't close her eyes or raise her hands in a desperate, defensive block.
The moment Adrian’s shoulder initiated the rotational movement of the swing, Claire’s spatial awareness kicked in. She immediately leaned her head and upper torso back, shifting her weight effortlessly to duck beneath the arc of his swing. Adrian’s hand whistled harmlessly through the empty air an inch above her nose, his momentum carrying him forward and off-balance.
Before Adrian could recover his stance, Claire launched into action. Her movement was fluid, lightning-fast, and executing absolute mechanical precision. As his arm overextended, Claire reached up with both hands. Her left hand snapped around Adrian’s extended wrist like a steel vise, securing his momentum, while her right hand slammed against his forearm to lock the joint.
She didn't fight his strength; she redirected it. Turning her hips smoothly with his forward momentum, Claire pivoted on her lead foot, dipping her center of gravity beneath his. Using his own speed, weight, and aggressive force against him, she drove his captured arm downward and forward in a classic rotational leverage takedown.
Adrian gasped as his balance was completely destroyed. He plummeted sideways and forward, completely helpless against the laws of physics.

CRASH!
Adrian’s heavy torso smashed hard into the edge of the mahogany dining table. The sheer violence of the impact rattled the entire room. A cascade of hand-blown crystal wine glasses and water goblets toppled over, sliding across the polished surface before plummeting onto the hardwood floor. The sound of shattering crystal echoed sharply through the grand space, shards flying in every direction, glittering like crushed diamonds under the chandelier lights.
