Chapter 7 - The Unravelling Truth

The silence in the living room grew heavy and suffocating. Outside, the quiet suburban street remained oblivious, but inside, the atmosphere had shifted from a physical rescue into the precipice of a terrifying mystery.
Derek slowly stood up, keeping Noah tucked securely against his hip with his left arm. In his right hand, he held Travis’s phone tightly, his thumb scrolling through the revealed data.
"Derek... listen to me," Travis stammered, his voice cracking as he held his hands up in a defensive gesture. "That’s... that’s not what it looks like. You don't understand the full situation!"
"Shut up," Derek said softly. It wasn't a shout, but the absolute coldness in his voice made Travis instantly press his lips together.
Derek looked at the phone screen again. The text threads, encrypted file attachments, and location tracking logs painted a chilling picture. Travis hadn't just entered Noah's mother's life by coincidence; his presence in this home, his interest in Noah, and his sudden aggression were part of a calculated, organized plot targeting Noah's father, Mark.
Noah looked up at his uncle, sensing the profound shift in the room. "Uncle Derek? Is Dad coming?"
May you like
"Yes, Noah," Derek said, his expression softening as he looked down at the child. "Your dad is almost here. You did so good calling him."
At that moment, the screeching of tires echoed from the driveway outside.
