Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Guard

The sound of approaching police sirens echoed in the distance, growing louder with every second as patrol cars sped toward the suburban neighborhood. Mark had called 911 from his car during his frantic drive across town.
Within minutes, red and blue lights flashed through the living room blinds. Two uniformed police officers stepped through the open front entrance, their hands resting on their holsters as they surveyed the room.
"Police! Nobody move!" the lead officer called out.
"In here, officer," Derek said calmly, stepping forward with his hands visible. "The situation is contained. The assailant is sitting on the couch. The weapon is in the corner."
The officers moved quickly, pulling Travis off the sofa and forcing his arms behind his back. As the steel handcuffs clicked around Travis's wrists, he finally looked up at Mark, his face filled with bitter resentment.
"You think this is over, Mark?" Travis spat as he was escorted toward the door. "You have no idea how big this is!"
"It's over for you," Derek replied coldly, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his brother as Travis was marched out of the house into the waiting police cruiser.
Mark knelt down once more, lifting Noah into his arms and holding him close against his chest. The little boy had finally stopped crying, resting his head against his father's shoulder, feeling completely safe between his father and his uncle.
Derek placed his hand on Noah's head, smoothing down his messy brown hair with a warm smile.
"You were very brave today, Noah," Derek said softly.
Noah looked up at his uncle, his small hand reaching out to pat Derek's jacket. "Uncle Derek came fast."
May you like
"I will always come fast, buddy," Derek said, looking at Mark with an unspoken bond of family protection that no corporate conspiracy or violent intruder could ever break. "Always."
Mark looked at his brother, nodding with deep, silent gratitude as the sirens faded into the distance. The threat had been stopped, the secret had been brought to light, and the family stood unbroken.
