Chapter 14 - The New Foundation

Six months passed.
The old Whitmore Chemical Division was completely dissolved and restructured as Keane Clean Energy Logistics—a green technology firm focused on industrial safety and sustainable shipping infrastructure.
The Wellesley estate was donated to the state of Massachusetts, converted into a public children's hospital and research center bearing the name of David Keane.
My uncle Richard was sentenced to eighteen years in federal prison without possibility of parole. Arthur Vance lost his license to practice law and was serving a six-year sentence for obstruction of justice.
On a bright spring afternoon, I drove out to a quiet residential neighborhood in Cambridge.
I pulled up in front of a beautiful two-story Victorian house with a green lawn, flowering cherry trees, and a wooden porch.
Marissa was standing on the porch, wearing jeans and a white sweater, watching Owen run across the grass on his chubby little legs. He was ten months old now, healthy, happy, and thriving.
She turned and smiled as I walked up the stone pathway.
"Mr. CEO," she teased gently, leaning against the porch railing. "Are you here to inspect the property?"
"Just checking on my favorite foundation," I replied, sitting down on the wooden porch steps beside her.
"Owen started walking two weeks ago," Marissa said softly, looking at her son who was giggling as he chased a yellow butterfly. "He has his father's eyes, Adrian. Every time he looks at me, I see David."
"He's going to grow up knowing his father was a hero," I said.
Marissa reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, framed photograph. It showed David Keane in his blue technician's uniform, smiling brightly in front of the harbor.

"I found this in an old box yesterday," she whispered, laying her hand over mine on the wooden step. "Thank you, Adrian. Not for the money, or the house. Thank you for giving my son his father's honor back."
"You gave it back yourself, Marissa," I said gently. "I just opened the door."
