Chapter 10 - The View from the Top

One year later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the Chicago River as the annual Midwest Logistics Summit convened at the Grand Hyatt Hotel downtown.

Over eight hundred top corporate leaders, investors, and industry pioneers sat inside the main auditorium, waiting for the keynote address.

The announcer stepped to the microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the Vice Chairwoman of Reed-Vance Capital and Chief Executive Officer of Vance-Reed Logistics... Maya Reed."

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause as Maya walked across the stage, wearing an elegant ivory suit, her hair styled perfectly, her posture commanding total authority.

She stood at the glass podium, looking out over the sea of Chicago's elite.

"One year ago," Maya began, her clear, powerful voice resonating through the auditorium speakers, "many people in this city believed that leadership was defined by title, by inherited wealth, and by the ability to look down on others from penthouse balconies."

She paused, making eye contact with several executives in the front row who had been present at the rooftop party twelve months earlier.

"They believed that the people who carry the folders, who work the overnight shifts, who scrub the floors, and who answer the phones are invisible," Maya continued softly. "They believed those people were powerless."

A gentle smile touched her lips as she leaned into the microphone.

"I spent eleven weeks learning that the true strength of any empire doesn't lie in its boardrooms—it lies in the people who build it from the ground up every single day. And if you ever forget that simple truth..."

She looked out over the audience, her eyes gleaming with sharp, unshakeable wit.
