Chapter 6 - THE SILENT WARNING

Sophia gripped the pale blue teardrop pendant tightly with both of her small hands, pressing it flat against her heart as if drawing strength from the stone.

She looked directly into Adrian’s dark eyes, her small voice cutting through the morning cold with terrifying clarity.

"She told me not to tell you," Sophia said flatly.

Adrian went completely, utterly still.

The words hung in the cold air between them like a physical blow. She told me not to tell you. It was not a general warning about strangers; it was a specific, deliberate instruction handed down from a mother to her daughter about him—or about the world he represented.

Sophia lowered her head slightly, her gaze flicking one final time toward the black armored SUVs and the dark-suited men standing guard beside them.

Adrian slowly followed her gaze, his mind racing through the terrifying implications of her look. Her fear was not directed at the large, tattooed man kneeling in front of her on the pavement. Her terror was aimed squarely at the security detail standing behind him—the very men Adrian had trusted to guard his life for over a decade.

A sickening realization began to wash over Adrian. The grief and shock that had consumed him moments ago transformed instantly into a razor-sharp, lethal suspicion. He stared at his own security detail, realizing that the secret of Sophia’s existence, and the whereabouts of her mother, was bound up in a web of treachery operating inside his own inner circle.
