Chapter 2 - THE RAVEN CREST

Jonah slowly lowered his heavy ceramic coffee mug to the table. The dark liquid sloshed slightly against the rim, but his eyes never left the small girl standing at his elbow.
Around the red vinyl booth, every single biker froze. Russell stopped mid-bite, his fork hovering inches above his plate, while Micah set his glass down without making a sound. The casual banter and low rumble of laughter that usually filled the table vanished in an instant, replaced by a dense, electric stillness.
Jonah turned his arm slightly, looking down at the black raven tattoo inked into his skin twelve years ago, then back up into Emma’s wide, unflinching hazel eyes.
"What's his name?" Jonah asked, his voice a low, gravelly rasp that vibrated across the Formica table.
Emma took a shallow breath, clutching the straps of her faded canvas backpack tightly against her chest.
"Daniel Mercer," she stated firmly.
Jonah went completely rigid. The color drained from his jaw as his muscles corded beneath his black tank top.
Across the booth, Russell and Micah immediately exchanged stunned, disbelieving looks. Micah leaned forward, his hands gripping the edge of the red vinyl seat, while Russell’s eyes widened in profound shock. For twelve long years, the name Daniel Mercer had been a ghost—a brother who had vanished without a trace, leaving a void that had fractured their entire motorcycle club.
Emma unbuckled the front flap of her worn backpack, reached inside with pale, slightly trembling hands, and pulled out a protected object. She stepped forward and placed an old, glossy photograph flat on the surface of the table, directly between Jonah’s coffee mug and his forearm.
The photograph was slightly faded around the edges, its colors carrying the warm amber hue of a decade past. It showed seven younger bikers standing shoulder-to-shoulder in front of a line of custom motorcycles parked outside this very diner.
In the exact center of the group stood Daniel Mercer—smiling, young, broad-shouldered, wearing the same black leather vest with the identical raven emblem stamped onto his chest. Standing directly beside him in the picture, with his arm thrown around Daniel’s neck, was a younger Jonah Briggs.

Emma pointed her small, delicate finger directly at the smiling man in the center of the frame.
"That's my dad," Emma whispered.
