Chapter 4 - THE MARCH OF THE FIFTY

The heavy double gym doors swung wide open with a deep, echoing bang.

A massive column of military working dogs and their uniformed handlers poured into the gymnasium in three perfectly disciplined parallel rows.

There were nearly fifty dogs in total—muscular German Shepherds with dark, menacing muzzles, streamlined Belgian Malinois with burning, intelligent eyes, and powerful, dark-coated detection Labradors. Every single dog wore specialized tactical vests equipped with load-bearing handles, silver D-rings, and dark morale patches. The handlers, elite servicemen and women from multiple military branches, walked beside their canine partners with rigid, military precision.

The entire gymnasium fell into absolute, breath-taking silence.

The loud music playing from the recruitment booths was forgotten. The hundreds of students sitting on the bleachers stopped talking entirely, leaning forward in awe as the massive, living wall of elite war dogs swept across the polished hardwood floor.

Lieutenant Carter’s confident, arrogant smile vanished from his face in a fraction of a second. His hand holding the wireless microphone dropped three inches as his eyes darted frantically across the marching column of canine apex predators. He had organized the career day events, but he had received zero operational notice about a mass tactical canine display of this scale.

The handlers guided the fifty dogs straight toward the center of the court, the rhythmic tapping of their claws on the hardwood echoing like a tactical drumbeat against the high vaulted ceiling.
