Chapter 6 - The Voice of Command

The cafeteria was so quiet that the rhythmic, heavy thud of military dress shoes striking the terrazzo floor sounded like a slow, deliberate march toward a court-martial.
The four-star officer approached from the far side of the room. The camera angle remained tight and strategic, showing only a partial silhouette of his decorated chest, the broad shoulder straps bearing four gleaming silver stars, and his immaculate posture, keeping his specific facial identity partially shadowed and mysterious.
Rourke turned his head slowly toward the approaching silhouette. The moment his eyes registered the four silver stars gleaming on the officer's shoulders, his square jaw dropped open. His face turned an ashen, ghostly pale, his skin instantly glistening with a cold sweat.
A deep, powerful male voice echoed across the silent room—a voice that had commanded theater-level operations and directed global strategy:
“Sergeant... step away from her.”
The command was not yelled; it was delivered with a quiet, lethal weight that left zero room for hesitation or debate.
Rourke’s body reacted on pure, ingrained military instinct. He took two rapid, unsteady steps backward, clearing the aisle, his hands dropping stiffly to his sides as he snapped to rigid attention. His heart hammered violently against his ribs like a trapped bird.
Slowly, terrifyingly, Rourke turned his eyes back toward Eleanor.
She remained standing completely still in the center of the aisle. Her gray blazer was still dripping with black coffee, her white blouse stained, her right hand still resting calmly over the hidden badge inside her jacket pocket. She looked at Rourke not with anger, but with the cool, detached pity of an apex predator observing a minor bug that had crawled onto her desk.
Rourke stared at her, his mind reeling as he finally realized the terrifying truth: the woman he had just physically shoved, insulted, and tried to throw out of the cafeteria was a high-level executive who held the power to strip his rank, destroy his career, and reassign him to a remote polar outpost before sunset.

Rourke’s lips trembled slightly as he swallowed hard, whispering a single, breathless word under his breath:
“What...?”
