Chapter 9 - THE CLEANING OF Sector 4

Agent Vance stepped into the front passenger seat of the lead Suburban, shutting the heavy armored door with a solid, airtight THUD that completely cut off the sound of the howling blizzard outside.
He picked up his tactical satellite comms handset, keying the direct line to the United States Attorney General's office in Washington.
"Director," Thomas spoke into the microphone, his voice smooth, clear, and absolute. "Target is secured at Fort Holbrook. Secondary evidence recovered from Sector 4 server stack. Initiate Phase Two."
Across the state of Virginia, the response was instantaneous.
Within fifteen minutes, fifty federal vehicles descended upon Fort Holbrook’s Sector 4 warehouse complex. Federal agents, military M.P.s, and forensic accountants poured into the compound, seizing hard drives, sealing shipping bays, and arresting eleven senior logistics officers who had operated as Sterling's local enforcers.
Inside the Suburban, Maya drank a slow sip of the hot black coffee, feeling the heat spread through her chest. Her hands had stopped shaking.
She reached into her pocket, pulling out her silver military dog tags that Guard One had discreetly slipped back into her palm while helping her off the marble steps. She looked at her name engraved on the steel plate: VANCE, MAYA S.
She had lost her reassignment post, her quiet logistics rotation was over, and her life in Fort Holbrook was finished. But as she looked down at the dog tags in her hand, she knew that her honor, her integrity, and her oath remained completely unbroken.
Thomas turned around from the front seat, looking at his sister with a quiet, proud expression.
"Where to now, Sergeant?" Thomas asked softly.
May you like
Maya looked out the tinted window at the gray, imposing concrete pillars of Fort Holbrook Headquarters shrinking in the distance behind the storm.
"Take me home, Thomas," Maya said quietly. "I'm done with logistics."
