Chapter 10 - Unraveling Truths

Victoria didn't answer. She kept her face hidden in her hands, her shoulders shaking violently as soft, frantic sobs escaped her throat. Her silence was a louder confession than any words she could have spoken.
Ethan took two steps toward her, his face a mask of pure betrayal. "You blocked her number on my phone? You intercepted her letters? For seven years, you watched me suffer, you watched me grieve, and you built our entire relationship on a pile of stolen letters?!"
"Ethan, please!" Victoria cried out, finally looking up, her mascara smudged, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "I did it for you! She wasn't right for you! She would have ruined your reputation, your position in the company! Your family needed someone who understood our world!"
"You ruined my life!" Ethan roared, his voice echoing violently off the high coffered ceiling, causing Noah to flinch slightly and press his face against Emma’s arm.
"Ethan! Control yourself," Richard commanded, his stern voice instantly cutting through his son's rage. "Not in front of the boy."
Ethan paused, his chest heaving as he looked down at Noah, who was watching him with wide, frightened eyes. The anger in Ethan's face instantly dissolved into a heartbreaking expression of shame and regret.
Emma wrapped her arms around Noah, pulling him close against her cream dress, resting her chin on his brown curls. She looked at Ethan—not with malice, but with a profound, tragic pity. The man she had loved, the man she thought had cold-heartedly discarded her, had been just as much a victim of the manipulation as she had been.
Richard reached into his jacket once more, placing the heavy, sealed parchment envelope onto the center of the dark wood table, right between Ethan and Emma.
"In this envelope," Richard said calmly, "are the original letters Emma sent seven years ago. Along with the bank statements showing exactly who paid off the hospital staff to ensure Emma’s medical records were altered."
Ethan stared at the envelope. His hand slowly reached out, his fingers brushing against the cold wax seal, but he didn't open it. The weight of what it contained was too heavy, too devastating to face all at once in this room.
"Why didn't you give me these earlier, Father?" Ethan asked softly, his eyes filled with tears that he refused to let fall.
"Because," Richard answered quietly, looking at Noah and then at Emma, "you were not ready to accept the truth until you saw what you had lost with your own eyes. You needed to see that Emma didn't come back for money. She came back because I invited her to claim what belongs to her son."
The grand double doors of the private dining room creaked open once more, and two private security officers in dark suits stepped silently into the room, standing at attention near the entrance.
Richard stood up smoothly, buttoning his luxury suit jacket. He looked down at Victoria.
"Miss Hale," Richard said, his voice devoid of any emotion. "My driver will escort you out of the building. Your father will be notified tomorrow morning regarding the termination of our corporate partnership."
Victoria looked up in sheer horror, but seeing the icy, unyielding expressions of the Blackwood security guards, she slowly stood up, her red silk dress rustling as she walked out of the room with her head bowed in disgrace, the grand doors closing quietly behind her.
The room fell into a quiet, profound stillness.
Ethan slowly walked back toward Table 12. He didn't look at his father, nor at the sealed envelope sitting on the dark wood. He walked until he was standing right beside Emma and Noah.
He slowly sank down onto one knee on the polished white marble floor, bringing himself to eye level with the six-year-old boy.
Noah looked at him curiously, his small hand reaching into his dark fabric backpack and pulling out a small, worn plastic toy car, holding it out toward Ethan with innocent generosity.
Ethan’s breath hitched in his throat. Tears finally spilled over his dark eyes, trailing down his cheeks as he looked at the boy, then up at Emma.
"Emma..." Ethan whispered, his voice broken, filled with seven years of stolen time and unanswerable questions. "What was in those letters?"
Emma looked down at him, her hazel eyes glistening under the warm golden light of the chandeliers. She gently placed her hand over Noah’s shoulder, holding Ethan’s gaze in the quiet, solemn expanse of the grand room.

"Everything," Emma whispered softly. "Everything I wished I could have told you before they erased me."
Ethan reached out a trembling hand, hovering inches away from Noah's tiny toy car, as the yellowed, wax-sealed envelope remained untouched on the table above them, holding the dark secrets that would forever rewrite the history of the Blackwood family.
