Chapter 7 - THE UNCOVERED AUDIT

Helena didn't flinch, though her hand tightened around her briefcase.

"Sarah was an artist, Ethan, not a corporate executive," Helena snapped smoothly, her voice dropping into a tight, sharp hiss. "She designed the penthouse suite as a personal memorial, not a revenue-generating asset! This hotel is losing twelve percent in quarterly margins, and the board authorized me to restructure the upper floor assets tonight!"

"The board doesn't own fifty-one percent of this franchise, Helena," Ethan stated flatly. "I do."

Helena let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "You own fifty-one percent of a company you run from the back of a motorcycle! Look at you! You walk into a five-star luxury establishment wearing leather, covered in tattoos, looking like a street thug, while your executives work sixty-hour weeks to keep the Vance name respectable!"

Ethan took one slow, deliberate step forward.

Despite carrying his sleeping daughter in one arm, his massive frame completely dominated the space between the marble pillars. The security guard behind Helena tensed, placing his hand lightly near his jacket, but Ethan didn't even look at him.

"My vest doesn't change who built this foundation, Helena," Ethan said, his tone icy and steady. "And my tattoos don't erase the fact that Sarah’s trust holds the voting rights to every mountain property in this state."

Helena’s face went pale.

Ethan pointed a dark, tattooed finger at the leather briefcase held tightly in her hand.

"What is in that bag, Helena?" Ethan asked softly. "What were you trying to sign in the private suite before I got here?"

Helena stepped back, her heels clicking against the stone as she instinctively pulled the briefcase closer to her coat. "It's an internal asset transfer. Standard procedure."

"Mercer," Ethan called out sharply, his voice slicing through the air like a blade.

The General Manager jumped, sweating profusely. "Y-yes, Mr. Vance?"

"Bring me the master ledger from the penthouse safe," Ethan commanded. "Now."
