Chapter 4 - The Flawless Strike and Counter

The physical action unfolded with terrifying speed, yet to Claire, conditioned by thousands of hours of high-intensity sparring, time seemed to dilate into distinct, manageable fractions of a second.
Adrian’s self-control snapped entirely. Driven by a desperate need to assert dominance in front of his father, he raised his right hand violently. His fingers curled into an open-palm strike, his arm swinging back in a wide, wild arc, aiming hard and direct toward the left side of Claire’s face. It was a heavy, telegraphed swing—laden with raw emotion, lacking any technique, relying entirely on momentum and superior upper-body mass to overpower her.
Had the strike connected, the force would have been sufficient to knock her off her chair, shatter her jaw, or cause severe concussion against the hard edges of the dining set.
Claire’s eyes did not widen. She did not freeze, scream, or blink. The instant Adrian’s shoulder began its forward rotation, her instincts took absolute control.
Before his hand could traverse half the distance to her face, Claire initiated her evasion. She did not lean backward—which would have off-balanced her—but instead slip-pivoted her upper torso smoothly to her right, dipping her head just six inches below the trajectory of his incoming palm. The wind from his wild swing whistled past her cheek, missing her skin by a mere millimeter.
As Adrian’s hand sailed harmlessly through empty air, his momentum carried him forward, pulling his body out of alignment and shifting his entire center of gravity over his front left knee. He was fully committed to the attack, entirely exposed, and completely off-balance.
Claire moved with explosive, liquid efficiency.
As her head slipped past his arm, her right hand shot out like a striking serpent. Her fingers wrapped around Adrian’s incoming right wrist with a vise-like grip, her thumb pressing precisely into the pressure point between his radius and ulna bones. Simultaneously, she planted her right foot, engaging her hip rotation, and rose from her chair in a single, fluid motion.
Rather than trying to stop his heavy frame with brute force, Claire utilized the fundamental core principle of Taekwondo and joint-lock mechanics: yield, direct, and multiply. She used his own forward momentum against him.
With her grip locked on his wrist, Claire rotated her torso counter-clockwise, stepping deep inside his guard. She drove her left forearm sharply against the crook of Adrian’s overextended elbow, creating a powerful leverage lever that locked his arm straight and forced his torso to twist violently downward.
"What—!" Adrian managed to gasp, his voice choking in his throat as his balance was completely destroyed.
Claire did not stop. She executed a sharp, powerful hip turn, pulling his arm downward and forward while driving her shoulder up into his armpit. The combined physical forces of his own forward momentum, her rotational leverage, and the precise torque on his wrist converted his top-heavy body into a kinetic projectile.
Adrian was launched off his feet. His body swung in an arc through the air, completely helpless against the laws of mechanics.
BANG!
Adrian crashed hard against the thick edge of the smoked black oak dining table. The impact was brutal. His lower ribs slammed violently into the solid wood, knocking the air out of his lungs in a sharp, painful wheeze. The force of his collision sent a shockwave traveling down the length of the twenty-foot table.
The disruption was total. The silver candelabras violently wobbled, hot wax splashing across the dark wood. Two heavy lead-crystal wine goblets and a decanter filled with red wine were knocked over by the sudden shift of the table. They rolled off the edge, crashing onto the hard, polished marble flooring around Adrian’s head.
CRASH!

The sound of shattering crystal echoed through the high ceilings like a gunshot. Shards of sparkling glass exploded in every direction, glittering under the bright overhead lights, while deep red wine pooled across the white marble like blood. Adrian hit the floor amidst the wreckage, rolling onto his side, clutching his ribs, gasping desperately for breath, his polished white shirt instantly stained with red wine and grey dust.
Claire stood directly above him. Her navy blue silk dress settled perfectly around her ankles, completely unruffled. Her hair was still flawlessly styled, not a single strand out of place. Her breathing was slow, measured, and completely under control. She had executed the counter-attack, neutralization, and disengagement in under two seconds.
