Chapter 10 - The Unshakable Truth

The estate grew quiet once more, though it was now a quiet of resolution rather than oppression.

Outside, the cool Pacific breeze blew through the open front doors, clearing away the heavy scent of lilies and old wine. The emergency vehicles remained parked along the long driveway, their flashing lights casting dynamic pattern sweeps across the grey limestone facade of the mansion.

Claire walked out onto the grand stone terrace overlooking the dark ocean. The ocean waves crashed against the rocks below, wild, untamed, and free. She leaned against the cool stone balustrade, taking a deep, clean breath of the salty night air.

She reached into her purse and retrieved her phone one last time. She unlocked the screen and opened a private, archived folder. Inside was a single photograph of her father, taken years ago in his judicial chambers, smiling warmly at the camera with a stack of law books behind him.

Claire looked at the photograph for a long moment. A soft, genuine smile finally touched her lips—not the cold, triumphant smile she had shown Victor, but a gentle smile of peace and fulfilled duty.

"It's done, Dad," she whispered into the cool night air. "The truth is out."

She locked the phone and slid it back into her pocket. She turned away from the vast, empty ocean and walked back toward the waiting vehicles. She did not look back at the Mercer estate. She did not look back at the dark oak dining room, the crystal glass, or the golden cage.

She walked forward into the night, calm, confident, and entirely her own master.
