Chapter 9 - The Confrontation in Gold

The heavy double doors closed behind Logan with a quiet, definitive click, leaving Marcus and Vincent standing guard in the hallway outside.
The soft golden glow from the bedside lamp cast long, dramatic shadows across the room. Sophia remained fast asleep under the comforter, her deep, calm breathing the only steady sound in the tense space.
Logan stopped four feet away from Emma. Up close, the sheer physical scale of the man was overwhelming, but Emma refused to shrink back.
"Who are you?" Logan demanded. His voice was dangerously low, vibrating with a suppressed emotion that bordered on lethal force.
Emma frowned, maintaining her calm, professional demeanor despite the pounding in her veins. "Mr. Parker, please lower your voice. Sophia just fell asleep."
"Do not tell me how to speak in my own house!" Logan hissed, taking another step forward, closing the distance between them until he towered over her. "Who hired you? Who gave you my family's name?"
"I was placed here through the Specialized Pediatric Agency at Mass General," Emma replied clearly, her voice unflinching. "My credentials, my background, and my medical history were verified by your house manager three days ago. You know exactly who I am."
"I know the story on your paper," Logan spat softly, his dark eyes searching her face with terrifying scrutiny. "I want to know where you got that song."
Emma froze. A cold shiver ran down her spine.
"The song?" she whispered.
"The lullaby," Logan said, his voice cracking slightly with raw, unvarnished pain. "The melody you sang to my daughter two minutes ago. The dialect. Where did you hear it? Who taught it to you?"
Emma looked at him, seeing for the first time that the man before her was not just a dangerous crime boss or a secretive billionaire—he was a broken man, consumed by a mystery that was tearing open an unhealed wound.
"My grandmother," Emma answered honestly, her tone dropping into a quiet, sincere cadence. "Nonna Rosa. She taught it to me when I was a little girl in East Boston. She sang it to me every night before I went to sleep."
Logan stared at her, his chest heaving as he digested her words. "Your grandmother... what was her family name?"
"Martell," Emma said. "Rosa Martell."
Logan froze. He slowly shook his head, a look of profound, terrifying confusion washing over his sharp features. "That's impossible... that name means nothing to me."
"It's the truth, Mr. Parker," Emma said stepping closer, her brown eyes bright with sincerity. "I grew up with that lullaby. It's the only thing I have left of my Nonna. I didn't mean to upset you or Sophia. I sang it because she was restless, and... and when I hummed it, she started forming the words herself."

Logan looked past Emma, his eyes fixing onto his sleeping daughter.
"She knows the words," Logan whispered, his baritone voice trembling violently. "Because her mother... my wife Elena... sang that exact song to her every single night of her life."
