Chapter 4 - THE FLUID COUNTER

The fist traveled fast, a wall of muscle and bone cutting through the stale air of the cafeteria.

In that split second, the atmosphere around Samuel shifted completely. The passive, quiet old man vanished. His posture didn't stiffen; it became infinitely fluid.

As Tommy’s fist closed the distance, Samuel didn't lean away or cover his face. His expression altered—his gray eyes narrowed with an intense, analytical precision that belonged to a predator rather than a victim.

Samuel’s left hand, still holding his food tray by the edge with his thumb, did not drop the tray. His right hand released his paperback book, pinning it against his ribs with his elbow, while his right forearm snapped upward like a steel spring.

Snap.

Samuel’s palm made light, sticky contact with the inside of Tommy’s right wrist. With a movement so smooth it looked almost effortless, Samuel guided the trajectory of Tommy’s massive fist harmlessly past the left side of his own head.

Before Tommy could register that his punch had missed, Samuel stepped into the giant’s guard, turning his hips sharply. He rotated beneath Tommy’s outstretched right arm, inserting his own left shoulder directly beneath Tommy’s exposed right elbow joint.

Samuel did not strike a single blow. He did not use a fist, an elbow, or a knee.

Instead, using Tommy’s own forward momentum against him, Samuel applied leverage against the elbow, rotating his core with mathematical precision.

Tommy’s massive frame swung around like a gate on a broken hinge. The giant gasped as his balance was completely erased, his center of gravity stolen in a fraction of a second.

With a heavy, dull thud, Tommy "The Bull" Richardson was brought down hard onto one knee on the concrete floor, his right arm pinned securely against Samuel’s shoulder, his huge body completely immobilized by a man half his size and twice his age.

The entire cafeteria froze into a portrait of absolute disbelief.
