Chapter 7 - A WHISPERED NAME IN THE DARK

Norah hesitated, slightly taken aback by the deep personal intensity in his voice. She pulled her hands from her apron pockets, her fingers lightly catching her pink sleeve.
"It’s just an old family stew," Norah replied softly, remaining guarded. "A comfort food recipe."
"Don't lie to me," Gabriel said, his tone dropping an octave, carrying no anger, only an overwhelming, desperate need to know. "This isn't a standard recipe. The cinnamon... the cut of beef... the braising technique. This belongs to one specific kitchen."
He stepped out of the booth, standing up to his full height. Though still physically weakened, his broad frame loomed over her, but his eyes held a profound gentleness that none of his bodyguards had ever seen before.
Gabriel leaned down slightly, his dark eyes burning into hers. Before Norah could give a second guarded response, Gabriel leaned in closer and whispered a single woman’s name under his breath.
The whisper was so soft, so muffled by the low roar of the rain outside, that neither Leo nor the bodyguards standing three feet away could hear the word clearly.
To the audience, the name remained an unheard, dark whisper against the storm.
But to Norah, the name struck like a bolt of lightning through the quiet diner.
Her lips parted in absolute shock. The calm, professional demeanor she had maintained since the armed men entered vanished instantly. The color drained from her face, her brown eyes widening as she stared up at the feared crime boss in utter disbelief.

Norah took one small step back, her hand pressing against her chest over her pink waitress uniform.
"How..." Norah stammered, her voice trembling violently. "How do you know that name?"
