The company investigation began quietly.
Grant did not own all of Caldwell Residential.
That saved it.
His older sister, Margaret Caldwell, held thirty-five percent.
An outside investment group held another twenty.
Once counsel received credible evidence of diverted funds, the board suspended Grant’s financial authority pending review.
Elias was placed on paid administrative leave because his credentials appeared throughout the suspicious transactions.
That terrified Josephine.
“See?”
Elias sat beside her at the kitchen table.
“This is not the same as being guilty.”
“But they sent you home.”
“Because they have to check.”
“What if they don’t believe you?”
“Then we keep showing them facts.”
Facts.
That became the family’s new religion.
Access logs showed Elias had not initiated many approvals.
Delivery logs contradicted invoices.
GPS data from his company truck placed him away from the office during several supposed transactions.
His handwritten site notebooks showed the actual material suppliers used.
And Grant’s messages tied him directly to the pass-through vendor.
