Chapter 4 - The Raid on Red Hook

At 2:00 a.m., six black armored Suburbans cut through the blinding snow toward the abandoned shipping warehouse on Pier 42 in Red Hook.

The engine rumblings were swallowed by the roaring gale of the winter Atlantic wind.

I stepped out of the lead vehicle wearing black tactical gear over my suit, holding a suppressed carbine rifle. Marco and twelve of my best soldiers stood behind me, their faces hardened by years of underworld combat.

"Thermal scopes confirm eight hostiles inside the main office block," Marco reported, looking at his handheld monitor. "And one female heat signature tied to a chair in the basement boiler room."

"No survivors among the guards," I commanded coldly. "I want Victor Vance alive. The rest can rot in the bay."

We breached the side doors of the warehouse with explosive breaching charges.

BOOM.

The shockwave blew the steel doors inward.

Before the smoke could clear, my men flooded the vast industrial floor. Suppressed gunfire spat through the darkness in quick, lethal rhythms.

POP. POP. POP.

Vance's guards were cut down before they could even draw their weapons from their jackets. They were undisciplined thugs used to terrorizing unarmed civilians; they were entirely unprepared for an elite Mafia strike force operating with military precision.

Within four minutes, the main floor was secure.

I kicked open the heavy iron door leading down into the subterranean boiler room.

There, tied to a rusted iron pipe beneath a dripping steam pipe, was Sarah Vance—a slender thirty-year-old woman with dark hair, her face bruised but her eyes burning with fierce resilience.

Standing above her, holding a heavy steel pipe, was Victor Vance—a brutal Russian mobster with a massive dragon tattoo sprawling up his neck.

"Moretti!" Victor shouted, his eyes widening in shock as he pulled a nickel-plated revolver from his waistband. "What the hell are you doing here?!"

I didn't answer with words.

I raised my rifle and put three round bursts straight through both of Victor's knees.
