Chapter 5 - THE EMBLEM OF THE PAST

Elena paused mid-step, her arms holding Mia close, her brown eyes narrowing in confusion as she looked at her employer.

"Sir?" Elena asked, noticing the sudden, terrifying shift in his posture.

Alessandro didn't answer her directly. He took a slow step forward, his tall frame looming over the mother and child. His right hand raised slowly, his large, calloused fingers trembling slightly—a phenomenon he had not experienced in over a decade.

He reached out and gently took the small silver pendant between his thumb and index finger, holding it up into the sunlight streaming through the penthouse windows.

The pendant was an intricate, custom piece of craftsmanship—a silver shield bearing a stylized crest of a roaring wolf wrapped in thorned ivy. It was not a cheap trinket bought from a department store; it was a bespoke crest forged by an Italian artisan decades ago.

Alessandro studied the silver surface closely, his sharp jawline clenching so hard a muscle twitched violently along his cheek. He stared at it as though recognizing an impossible ghost—something that had been buried in the dark soil of his past, something that had no logical right to be hanging around the neck of his housemaid's ten-month-old daughter.

"Where did she get this?" Alessandro demanded, his voice dropping into a razor-thin whisper that sent a cold shudder down Elena’s spine.

Elena became visibly, intensely tense. She pulled back slightly, her grip on Mia tightening as she felt the shift in the room's energy.

"It... it belonged to her father," Elena stammered, her cheeks turning pale as she looked down at the floor. "He left it for her before he died."

Alessandro’s hand froze instantly around the silver shield.
