Chapter 10 - A NEW DAWN OVER THE LAKE

By late evening, the sun had set over Lake Michigan, painting the Chicago skyline in brilliant shades of deep purple, gold, and indigo. The city lights twinkled like thousands of diamonds across the dark water far below the penthouse windows.

Inside the quiet master bedroom—a room that had remained cold and unused for years—a brand-new, hand-carved wooden crib had been set up beside the grand king-sized bed.

Mia lay fast asleep inside the crib, wrapped in a warm white blanket, her small hands curled near her face, her tiny silver pendant resting safely on the nightstand beside a framed photograph of Lorenzo Duca.

Elena stood near the window, wearing a clean, comfortable sweater, watching the city lights.

Alessandro walked silently into the room, carrying two warm cups of tea. He handed one to Elena, standing beside her as they looked out over the vast metropolis below.

"I spent fourteen months hunting the men who took my brother," Alessandro said softly, his eyes reflecting the city lights. "I thought revenge was the only thing left for me."

He turned his head, looking at the sleeping infant in the crib, then back at Elena.

"Today, you gave me back my life," Alessandro said, his voice filled with a quiet, profound gratitude. "You and Mia will never want for anything ever again. You are family now."

Elena looked up at him, a soft, beautiful smile touching her lips as she placed her hand gently over his broad forearm.

"Thank you, Alessandro," Elena whispered softly. "Lorenzo always told me you were a good man beneath the suit. I finally see what he meant."

Alessandro looked down at her, the dark shadows of his past finally dissipating into the warm, secure glow of the penthouse, knowing that whatever wars awaited him in the city outside, his family was finally safe inside his walls.
