Chapter 6 - THE HIDDEN ANOMALY BENEATH THE BLANKET

The sudden shutting of the radiator valve brought a sharp, cooling draft into the room as rain continued to hammer the glass windows.
Without waiting for permission from the paramedics or Michael, Emily extended her right hand. Her fingers slid smoothly beneath the twisted, pale blue cashmere blanket tucked behind Noah’s left shoulder blade.
Instantly, Frank Miller and two armed security personnel surged forward, their instincts honed to protect the boss’s family from any unknown physical touch. Frank reached out a broad hand to grab Emily’s wrist.
"Don't touch him!" Frank barked.
"Let her touch him!" Michael roared, his voice booming across the nursery so loudly it rattled the crystal pendants on the chandelier overhead.
Frank froze mid-stride, his hand hovering inches from Emily's shoulder.
Michael leaned over the marble changing table, his blood-stained cuff brushing against the edge of the cardiac monitor. His eyes were locked onto Emily’s face with a ferocious, unwavering intensity. He was risking his only son’s life on the word of a woman who had spent eight months washing his dishes—and he knew it.
Emily didn't flinch as the armed men crowded her. Her right hand remained deep beneath the blue blanket, her fingertips carefully palpating the soft tissue along the infant's tiny upper back, near the base of his neck.
Her eyes narrowed. Her breathing slowed to a quiet, rhythmic count.
Three seconds passed. Four. Five.
Suddenly, Emily’s fingertips hit a subtle, hard anomaly beneath the soft fabric—an object so small, so deceptively positioned, that no standard physical exam or visual inspection had caught it during the frantic resuscitation attempts.
A subtle, sharp shift crossed Emily’s face—a realization that solved the entire mystery of Noah’s sudden collapse.
Her gaze locked onto Michael’s eyes.
She whispered:
May you like
"There."
The entire room froze in absolute, breathless silence. The paramedics held their breath, the armed guards stood motionless, and Michael Carter leaned down until his face was inches from hers, waiting for the action that would either save his son’s life or end it forever—as the video cut to black before anyone could see what lay hidden beneath the pale blue blanket.
